YouTube Launches 'Eraser' Feature That Remove Only Copyright Music From Video

YouTube has launched an improved artificial intelligence (AI) tool that can remove copyrighted music from videos while maintaining different audio.

TechCrunch reported on the 5th (local time) that YouTube has officially released a tool called Erase Song. Previously, the feature was only partially released and tested in beta.

Introducing the tool through X (Twitter), YouTube CEO Neil Mohan said, "In previous test versions, it was not accurate to remove copyrighted songs," adding, "The updated version uses AI algorithms to detect and remove the song specifically without affecting other audio in the clip."

However, a separate support page warned that the algorithm could sometimes fail to delete only songs.

"If it's hard to remove the song, this editing may not work," he said. "If you don't successfully remove the sound source from the video, you can try other editing options, such as mute or trim all sounds in that part."

Meanwhile, YouTube recently changed its policy to allow people to request the creation of AI that mimics faces or voices or the deletion of synthetic content.

Of course, simply submitting a deletion request does not necessarily mean that the content will be deleted. YouTube said it will make its own judgment based on various factors.
